Walkers and Cyclists
For the adventurous tourist using the national cycle routes, take a detour from Route 16 at Whitfield and find your way to Kearsney Railway Station and then follow the walking route direction. For anyone using the route in the opposite direction follow the route from Dover Priory Railway Station. Further details of Routes 2, 15, 16, 17 can be found in the "Kent Cycle Map" brochure, which can be found and downloaded from the Sustrans web site.
Walker, hikers and cyclists may also find the following Ordinance Survey maps of use:
- Explorer 138 - Dover, Folkestone and Hythe
- Landranger 179 - Canterbury and East Kent
Walking Route from Kearsney Railway Station
From the station entrance turn right onto the approach road. At the end of the road turn right onto Alkham Road, crossing the road to use the footpath under the railway bridge.
Bear left into Lower Road and follow this road around, passing the "Dublin Man'O'War" public house on your left.
Continue along this road, passing the "Royal Oak" public house on your left. You will come to a bridge over the river. Cross over the bridge and follow the river (now on your left) to the Mill (about 150 yards).
Distance is just under a mile.
Walking Route from Dover Priory Railway Station
From the station entrance turn right and follow the approach road to Folkestone Road.
Bear left onto Folkestone Road and follow this road, passing a Shell garage on your left, towards the roundabout.
Bear left onto Priory Road. You will see St. Edmunds Chapel on your right and the Maison Dieu ahead of you (the big building with the clock) on the High Street.
Continue in this direction along High Street and London Road. At Buckland, with "The Bull" public house on your right, you will see the facade of the disused Buckland Paper Mill in front of you and a road bridge bearing right over the river. Do not cross the bridge, but continue straight ahead to Pavilion Meadows following signs for St. Andrews church. This is a pedestrian footpath but beware of cyclists!
Follow Pavilion Meadows past the church. You will find a tunnel under the railway line which brings you out onto Crabble Avenue. Bear right after the tunnel and follow Crabble Avenue to the T-junction at the end (and "The Cricketers" public house). Cross Crabble Road and turn right then left into Lower Road.
Follow Lower Road (and the river Dour) for about 300 yards to arrive at the Mill.
Distance is a touch under 2 miles (3 Km)
