‘RIVERS OF COLOUR’ Art Exhibition will be the debut display of art by River resident, Caroline Fox Betts, will be held at the Mill from Saturday 19th August to Sunday 27th August, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, in the basement of the Mill.

As a child, art was Caroline’s favourite pastime, but she was punished for attaining high school grades in the subject, and at home all art materials were forbidden. Even though she ran away at the age of 15, Caroline suffered a difficult relationship with the urge to paint all her adult life. This led to bouts of depression, but 40 years on, helping as a volunteer at Crabble Corn Mill,

Caroline painted many large murals for public events and found herself finally liberated from those deep-rooted inhibitions. For the past two years, Caroline has been creating smaller compositions, working from her own candid photography of human behaviour, or simply beautiful scenery.

On display will be local scenes, French landscapes, life studies and portraits in oils, acrylics and pastelles. Entry is free, family and dog-friendly, and refreshments are available from the Mill café and licensed bar. A percentage of all painting sales will go towards the upkeep of the Mill.
